Independence has too many empty buildings, stalled projects, and neighborhoods that feel forgotten. We can fix this by focusing on what works. We do not need more big announcements that never happen. We need steady work that brings our blocks back to life.
I will work with the City Manager, Council, and community leaders to rebuild older neighborhoods, clean up problem properties, and make our business districts vibrant again. That means putting resources into infill development, supporting local storefronts, and improving the basics like lighting, sidewalks, and parks.
A stronger economy does not come from chasing shiny projects that never open. It starts with supporting the businesses we already have, attracting new employers who treat workers fairly, and helping families earn wages that allow them to live, shop, and dine right here at home.
With honest leadership and a clear focus, we can revitalize Independence block by block.
My priorities:
• Bring vacant houses and buildings back into use
• Target upgrades in neighborhoods with high need
• Strengthen our business districts with storefront help and cleanup support
• Streamline permitting and cut red tape for local entrepreneurs
• Promote family-friendly housing through zoning updates
Every family deserves to live in a neighborhood that feels safe, well lit, and taken care of. That starts with fixing dangerous intersections, investing in sidewalks and lighting, and partnering with residents to make streets safer.
It also means supporting the people who keep us safe. Our police, fire, dispatchers, and first responders deserve competitive pay and a city that values their service. As Mayor, I will work with the City Manager and Council to ensure public safety departments have the resources they need to recruit and keep good people.
We can build neighborhoods where kids feel safe walking to school, where seniors can cross the street without fear, and where people feel proud of where they live.
My priorities:
• Advocate for improved street lighting and sidewalk upgrades
• Work with police on targeted traffic safety in high-risk areas
• Support competitive pay and training for police, fire, and dispatchers
• Clean up blight so neighborhoods feel cared for again
Independence needs leadership rooted in honesty, respect, and transparency. Too many decisions in recent years have eroded public trust. As Mayor, I will work in the open, publish my schedule, support stronger ethics rules, and push for clear and accountable decision-making at every level.
Good government means listening to people, not insiders. It means lifting up the voices of working families, seniors, young people, business owners, veterans, and the neighborhoods that have been ignored. It means tackling real issues like homelessness, blight, and public safety by working with the community, not behind the scenes.
I will never promise what cannot be delivered. I will always be honest about how the system works and what it will take to move Independence forward.
My priorities:
• Publish the Mayor’s calendar and hold regular public briefings
• Push for stronger ethics rules and greater transparency in city operations
• Improve public reporting on spending, projects, and decision-making
• Lead with respect, integrity, and a commitment to open government
Independence has a proud veteran community. They deserve more than a thank you. They deserve real support.
I will work with veterans organizations, service providers, and community groups to improve access to housing programs, job training, and transportation, and to make sure no veteran is left behind.
My priorities:
• Strengthen connections to VA services
• Support housing stability for veterans
• Improve transportation access
• Expand job training opportunities
We need compassion and accountability. Both matter. Families should feel safe in public spaces, and people struggling with homelessness deserve real help.
I will work with service providers, faith groups, and county partners to improve outreach, expand mental health support, and connect people to stable housing programs while keeping public spaces safe and clean.
My priorities:
• Expand outreach and support services
• Strengthen mental health and addiction connections
• Improve coordination with county and regional partners
• Protect public spaces so families feel safe
Seniors built this community. They should be able to stay in the homes they love, stay active, and stay connected.
I will support programs that help seniors with home repairs, transportation, and neighborhood safety, and work with local partners to improve wellness and support services.
My priorities:
• Expand home repair support
• Improve transportation access
• Strengthen safety and wellness programs
• Keep seniors connected to community life
Families are dealing with mental health challenges, addiction, and access to care. Independence needs stronger partnerships and better coordination.
I will work with county officials, providers, and first responders to expand services, improve training, and connect people to the help they need.
My priorities:
• Expand mental health support
• Improve access to treatment and prevention
• Support first responder training
• Strengthen regional health partnerships
Kids deserve safe parks, strong community centers, and real opportunities. Families deserve places to gather and grow.
I will push for better playgrounds, expanded youth sports, and stronger after school and summer programs through partnerships with schools and nonprofits.
My priorities:
• Upgrade parks and playgrounds
• Expand youth sports access
• Support after school and summer programs
• Strengthen partnerships with schools
Independence should not fall behind. We need modern technology, efficient city services, and strong broadband access everywhere.
I will support upgrades to online permitting, public data tools, and broadband expansion, and work with the City Manager to update aging systems so residents get the service they deserve.
My priorities:
• Improve online services and transparency
• Expand broadband access
• Modernize city systems
• Make information easy to find
Good parks bring people together. Independence can strengthen its parks with better lighting, trail connections, safer playgrounds, and more community events.
My priorities:
• Upgrade lighting and safety features
• Improve trails and access
• Enhance playgrounds and green spaces
• Support community events that bring neighbors together
Every dollar should work for the people. We need responsible budgeting, clear reporting, and a focus on the basics.
I will support steady financial management and make sure spending aligns with what families actually experience: good streets, reliable utilities, clean neighborhoods, and strong public safety.
My priorities:
• Transparent and responsible budgeting
• Clear reporting on major projects
• Focus on basic city services
• Long term financial stability
A better Independence is possible. With honesty, hard work, and a focus on the people who built this city, we can move forward together.
